a Film from Either side of America

Two very different but equally interesting films have landed on the desk (laptop) at SWS this week. One from The heart of East Coast US wooden boat land, Maine. The other from Pacific North West.

VINTAGE is a schooner designed by Pete Culler and built by the legendary Joel White. The film is presented by the Brooklin Boatyard. It’s a simple reading of a book written by the original owner, Jim Mitchell when he was 94 years old. As it begins, you might find the presentation a little prosaic, compared to the manic tiktok style that infects so much of our daily visual intake, but be patient, persist, and focus on the content. There is a charm, and substance deep within this little seven minute film.

We’ve written about the GOLDEN RULE and her history before. But in this twenty minute film (made aboard the vessel), Captain Kiko Johnston tells of his personal stories and experiences, the educational initiatives for promoting environmentally ethical practices and how the GOLDEN RULE continues to inspire change today.

The GOLDEN RULE's legacy the part it played in stopping nuclear bomb testing, but it continues to champion environmentally ethical practices to the present day.
