Consider a holiday in Queensland!
It’s a long way to travel to Queensland if you live in one of the Southern States… especially if you are towing a small wooden boat…. But if there were two enticing small craft events on offer, both with a proven track record and within a fortnight and 60kms of each other then the temptation is even greater.
Bribie Classic Boat Regatta 20th-22th May 2022
The Bribie Classic Boat Regatta, showcases the beauty and skill of classic boating (built between 1943-1975) and spotlights the pristine beauty of the blue velvet waters of the Pumicestone Passage of Queensland’s Moreton Bay region. Located, about an hour north of Brisbane, the ‘Passage’ is a perfect runway for these classic maritime models. The Bribie Classic Boat Regatta is also the perfect expression of a laid-back Queensland lifestyle and social pride in our rich marine environment and heritage.
This year – 2022 – more than ever, the BACE team are keen to throw overboard the COVID albatross and bid our ‘out-of-town’ visitors a hearty welcome!
With more than 70 registrations to the Bribie Classic Boat regatta in 2021, we look forward to welcoming our ‘Boatie’ buddies from far and wide; from our home state of Queensland, from our southerly neighbours in New South Wales and Victoria, and Tasmania, and further west to WA and our northerly neighbours, we bid you welcome to the beautiful Bribie Island.
And then just an hours south you can join in with this!
NOOSA YACHT AND ROWING CLUB GAFF RIG REGATTA - 5th JUNE 2022
Phil Atkins writes….
The Noosa Yacht and Rowing Club are conducting on the 5th of June 2022 the 3rd annual Gaff Rig Sailing Regatta.
In 2019 the inaugural NYRC Gaff rig regatta attracted a small but enthusiast fleet of Gaff, Sprit and Lug sail yachts, all of varying designs, sizes, age and hull materials.
Unfortunately the 2020 NYRC Gaff Rig regatta had to be cancelled due to Covid 19 restrictions. Last year 2021 our fleet numbers tripled from the inaugural regatta. Entries included a number of interstate boats despite the further complications of Covid 19 and border restrictions.
For 2022 NYRC are planning a Regatta event with over 25 entries and diverse range of yacht designs.
A few features of the 2022 Gaff regatta. All proceed from the Regatta go to the Noosa Charity Sailability, which gives disabled people the opportunity to learn to sail
· The regatta dates coincide with the Noosa Come Together River bank festival.
· Our major sponsor will again supply the very well accepted winner and place getter prizes of Bundaberg Rum.
· Other Nautical prizes from our sponsors are available for various yacht results and performance.
· Entries are open to any design of Gaff Rig or similar sail plans. Hulls can be wood, fiberglass or any other material. The yacht types can be Keel, Centreboard, Trailer Sailor yachts. Dingy designs with Sprit, Gunter or similar rigs like Mirrors, Herons etc are also most welcome.
