Constant reinvention
As an Executive Chef, Karen Batson grew, lead and managed teams across multiple locations. As a lover of adventure she has travelled the world and more recently has come to embrace sailing.
In 2021, she’s about to embark on a completely new career direction as a silversmith, returning to study and establishing a studio.
However, it was ten years ago, when along with her sister Anne, the Batson sisters decided to become the latest custodians of Zephyr, a Melbourne based Tumlaren, unleashing a whole new passion. Adding the title of President of the Tumlaren Association of Australia to her CV, Karen Batson is the mistress of reinvention!
In this interview we chat balancing work and boats, what it means to take on the job of custodian and we attempt to answer one of life’s great mysteries,
why don’t more women sail?
