Huon Pine! Iconic! and Free! (for the moment!)

Thanks to Jaemie Wilson for telling us about this rare opportunity.

CORINNA, perhaps the only Huon Pine International Dragon ever built is being offered free to a good home. Her condition is described as “dilapidated”.

She was built by Geoff Cuthbertson in 1956, (the year the classed raced for an Olympic Gold Medal, just across Bass Strait on Port Phillip) from Huon Pine, obtained from Corinna on the Pieman River in deepest darkest wettest western Tasmania by Ediss Boyes. Cuthbertson built a total of 8 Dragons from the early 1950s (CORINNA was build no.3) until early 60’s…. so he knew what he was doing!

If you are at all interested in her plight, then please get in touch with Zane Ridgeway but don’t for a moment underestimate the responsibility and commitment that goes with owning such a beautiful craft….

However if all goes well, and the new custodian is realistic (see Jim Woods’ advice at the 7min mark) and determined, I’m sure the rewards will outweigh the difficulties.

For more information on the International Dragon Class, have a read of Charlie Salter’s article posted in SWS a few weeks ago.
