Music on the Margaret Pearl

With the Australian Wooden Boat Festival approaching fast, interstate craft are making their final preparations for the trip south. The usual last minute jobs of victualling, fuelling up and weather prediction have started for most of the boats. However the custodians of the MARGARET PEARL have an additional task! Jim Woods, with a long forgotten, dark history of music performance and band management, has committed to hosting twilight live acoustic music sessions at the festival aboard his beautiful 57ft ex-fishing vessel. Starting at 6PM on the Friday and Saturday of the festival, the spacious deck will become the perfect stage as those who were at the Geelong Wooden Boat Festival can attest.

The idea is to draw from the musical pool of talent available from boat owners and crew members at the Festival, to create some semi-organised impromptu performances. Jim is hoping that he may be able to form like-minded musicians into groups before the festival starts, so they can find a couple of tunes that fit individual styles.

He’s already has some interest from performers via the festival’s facebook page, but he’s looking for some more. Any musical genre will be considered. He’s especially looking to find a jazz/blues piano player to take on melodica duties but he’s also hoping to see bagpipes, bush ballads, bosa nova, bebop and blues - perhaps not all at the same time!

If you’re interested in being part of this spontaneous celebration email james.woods@ecollect.com.au.

Expressions of interest should include:
Your name, email, mobile, musical skills (what instrument), genre, etc.
Jim will endeavour to make a time available for you in the program.

Everyone will be welcome to turn up and enjoy the performances.

Get Into It!
