Noosa Gaff Rig Regatta

A few years ago Phil Atkins was a regular in the CYAA Port Phillip fleet with his gorgeous Olsen yawl TRIM.  Not only was she pretty, but she was also deceptively quick, sailing past yachts that seemed so much more svelte!

TRIM has a new custodian these days, but this week Phil contacted us with news of what seems like a great little event on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland.  If you’re in the area in June, get involved!

Phil writes…

"The Noosa Yacht and Rowing Club held the inaugural Noosa Gaff Rig regatta in 2019 in conjunction with a local charity on the banks of the Noosa River.

The three race Sunday regatta was a great success with merry time had by all competitors. Unfortunately, due to Covid 19 restrictions the follow up 2020 regatta had to be cancelled. Now, in 2021 we have the Noosa Yacht and Rowing Club Gaff Rig regatta planned for Sunday the 6th  June.

Entries are basically for yachts with Gaff, Gunter or similar rigs and can be constructed of any material. NYRC can arrange launching, mooring, accommodation, crew and anything else if required.   If you want to get a feel for the event have a look at this short video by Christopher Sly from his boat, MOONLIGHT

As you can see it’s not too serious racing, sailing in beautiful warm water, great camaraderie and interesting prizes.

“This has to be the most unique, beautiful, river system in Australia to cruise in small yachts. No River Raid event is organised by the Noosa Yacht Club but a cruise can planned to coincide with the Regatta”
