Shekou & Leeuwin II

Some of you may have read a story we published in August last year about the dismasting of the sail training ship Leeuwin in Fremantle Harbour. Now eight months later The Australian Transport Safety Bureau have released an interim report which is impressive in its thoroughness and Transparency.

You can read the whole document HERE and while they are yet to make official conclusions the report covers the nature and timing of the event, the conditions and circumstance surrounding it, the details and situation of both vessels and the matters that require further investigation. As someone who has never been involved in this type of important bureaucratic accounting, I found the unemotional and fact driven narrative refreshing.

At this stage the report is only about 10 pages long but if watching is more your thing than reading check out this video, which was produced by the ATSB to support the report. Its riveting if slightly disturbing watching
