Beginning this spring, MARGARET PEARL will be offering day and overnight trips in Port Phillip. however for those who can’t wait that long, here are a few extended excursions which promise excitement and adventure, (and a touch of comfort!) in Victoria and Tasmania’s southern waters 


FOCUS ON TUNA-WINTER 2022

Melbourne to Portland – 4 days – Thu 26 May to Sun 29 May.

We will depart from Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron in St Kilda and head down the Bay. The weather in Bass Strait will determine how the remainder of the passage works. In a perfect world, there will be a fishing session for kingfish in the Port Phillip heads at the turn of the tide before heading west. Once into Bass Strait, tuna lures will be towed. The aim is to overnight at Apollo Bay and/or Port Fairy. 

Variations on this theme are possible. We can make a shorter or longer trip to suit. Earlier dates may be available. Maximum 6 persons.

Cost – vessel $3,730 inc  GST per day + $121 per head per day. Includes all meals.
Excludes alcoholic beverages.

Day Trips from Portland – Mon 30 May to Sun 31 Jul

Trips will depart early from the Portland Harbour to chase tuna off the continental shelf.  Guests are welcome to stay on board Margaret Pearl on the return to Portland Harbour. Maximum 10 persons for the day out. Maximum 8 persons for accommodation.

Cost – vessel $3,730 inc GST per day + $99 per head per day.
Including lunch and overnight stay in Portland Harbour Excluding alcoholic beverages.

Portland to Melbourne – 4 days – Thu 4 Aug to Sun 7 Aug

This a reverse of the Melbourne to Portland trip set out above. We can make a shorter or longer trip to suit. Earlier dates may be available. Maximum 6 persons.

 Cost – vessel $3,730 inc GST per day + $121 per head per day. Includes all meals.
Excludes alcoholic beverages.

BASS STRAIT AND AROUND TASMANIA – SUMMER 2023

Margaret Pearl will be heading to Hobart for the Australian Wooden Boat Festival in the second weekend of February 2023. Trips available include:

 Sorrento to Port Welshpool  - Wed 4 Jan 23 to Sun 8 Jan 23

The aim of this trip is to spend as much time around Wilsons Promontory as possible. As with all our trips, the exact itinerary is completely dependent on the weather. Overnight anchorages may include Flinders, San Remo, the Glennies, Oberon Bay and Refuge Cove. Maximum 6 persons.

Cost – vessel $4,180 inc GST per day + $121 per head per day.
Includes all meals. Excludes alcoholic beverages.

Port Welshpool  - Kent Group – Flinders Island - Mon 9 Jan 23 – Fri 13  Jan 23 

A first nights stay at Refuge Cove is an option before moving out to the Kent Group and then east to Flinders Island. As with all our trips, the exact itinerary is completely dependent on the weather. Passengers will need to organise travel to Port Welshpool and a light plane flight from Flinders Island. This flight usually terminates at Moorabbin. Maximum 6 persons.

Cost – vessel $4,180 inc GST per day + $121 per head per day.
Includes all meals. Excludes alcoholic beverages.

Hobart, Storm Bay and D’Entrecasteaux Channel – Mon 30 Jan 23 to Wed 8 Feb 23

Margaret Pearl will be available for day or overnight trips departing and returning to Hobart. As with all our trips, the exact itinerary is completely dependent on the weather. Maximum overnight 6 persons. Maximum day 25 persons. 

Cost – vessel $4,180 inc GST per day + $121 per head per day for overnight. Includes all meals. Excludes alcoholic beverages. Pricing for shorter trips available on request.

Hobart to Port Davey – Wed 15 Feb 23 to Sat 18 Feb 23

Head south down the D’Entrecasteaux Channel and into the Southern Ocean.  Then around South West Cape and up to Port Davey. As with all our trips, the exact itinerary is completely dependent on the weather. Overnight anchorages may include D’Entrecasteaux Channel and Recherche Bay. Maximum 6 persons.

Passengers will need to organise a light plane flight from Port Davey (Melaleuca) to Hobart. This flight is provided by Par Avion at cost of around $300.

Cost – vessel $4,180 inc GST per day + $121 per head per day for overnight.
Includes all meals. Excludes alcoholic beverages.

 Port Davey to Strachan – Sat 18 Feb 23 to Fri 24 Feb 23

This trip will allow exploration of Port Davey and then an ocean passage to Port Macquarie. Once in Port Macquarie, we will travel up the Gordon and Franklin Rivers and explore the wilderness which is the home of the famous huon pine and celery top pine. As with all our trips, the exact itinerary is completely dependent on the weather. Maximum 6 persons.

Passengers will need to organise a light plane flight to Port Davey (Melaleuca) from Hobart.
This flight is provided by Par Avion at cost of around $300. Passengers will need to organise transport from Strachan. 

Cost – vessel $4,180 inc GST per day + $121 per head per day for overnight. Includes all meals. Excludes alcoholic beverages. Pricing for shorter trips available on request.

Strachan to Port Davey or cruise Macquarie Harbour - Sat 25 Feb 23 and ongoing

Margaret Pearl may be available during March 2023 for 6 day trips between Strachan and Port Davey / Port Davey to Strachan which will run from Saturday to Friday.

Passengers may consider shorter trips within the confines and shelter of Macquarie Harbour including overnight trips up the Gordon and Franklin Rivers. As with all our trips, the exact itinerary is completely dependent on the weather. Maximum 6 persons.

Passengers travelling to or from Port Davey will need to organise a light plane flight to Port Davey (Melaleuca) from Hobart. This flight is provided by Par Avion at cost of around $300. Passengers will need to organise transport to/from from Strachan.
