VENTURA
Cutter-rigged ketch
VENTURA is ready to sail without any work!
VENTURA has been antifouled (October 22), engine oil and filters changed and is ready and fully equipped for an extended offshore cruise.
A meticulously maintained, stable and seaworthy cutter-rigged ketch with a long keel, built around 1946, VENTURA is listed by the Classic Yacht Association of Australia. The new owner can confidently sail away without any further work or purchase of equipment. A delight for a lover of vintage wooden boats, wide decks make for safe movement in a seaway and this cosy cabin is comfortable without luxury.
Extensive work has been done over the years since the current owner purchased the vessel in 2005, fully renovated the hull and rigging and installed a new motor. Further significant work was done in 2020 (removal and full workshop refurbishment of motor, modification of cabin furniture, painting of masts, renewal of standing rigging and new
LED navigation lights on main mast and new wiring to both masts). VENTURA comes with extensive essential spare parts.
VENTURA’s hull is constructed of 1 ¼ inch NZ Kauri planks on laminated spotted gum frames with extensive bracing and stringers. The inevitable leakage into her vintage timber hull is dealt with by a dual automatic bilge pumping arrangement with built in redundancy which has proved very reliable. The owner has maintained and progressively improved the hull and cabin top. The cabin top and decks are sheathed in fibreglass making the topsides entirely water-tight.
The current owner has sailed her extensively around Port Phillip and Westernport Bays, the Victorian Coast and Tasmania. VENTURA can be easily sailed single-handed in enclosed waters and is equipped for off-shore cruising broadly based on ORC rules for offshore racing.
