The Cup Regatta reboot

If you’re looking for an event to target
as we attempt Cov-exit, we think you
should consider this one!

Like so many of the best laid plans in Victoria, the 2020 version of the Cup Regatta held annually on Port Phillip Bay, fell victim to the Pangolin’s Breath. However unlike so many other organisations, the CYAA has refused to give up so easily and has rescheduled the event into an innovative five race program to be held over two weekends in February and March 2021.

This will be the 14th consecutive running of the event which has become Australia’s biggest multi day event for racing classic boats. With an eclectic fleet of up to 40 craft ranging from Couta Boats to centenarian Gaff Cutters, and everything in between.

The first stage will be four races over the weekend of the 21st and 22nd February. If you think Classic Yacht racing just is a format for old men to gently cruise around in their polished craft, then this is where you should come to be disillusioned!  The second stage of the event on  20th and 21st March will be a 32 nm (Category 7) race to Geelong.  This tricky passage always rewards the well-prepared navigators and giving opportunities for all craft to excel on handicap.  The Presentations and Social side of the event will be and RGYC on the Saturday evening followed by social sail back on the Sunday.
