Flotsam #2

On the rare occasions that sailing is covered in the mainstream media, its usually a few seconds on the Sydney Hobart Line Honours winner or ghoulish stories of the disasters of single-handed circumnavigators.

So, seeing this great image by Simon Schulter in Melbourne's Sunday Age on the 20th December was a surprising and refreshing sight, especially in the week during which the flying machines of the Americas Cup had taken flight on the Hauraki Gulf in earnest. Great publicity for Ferdi Darley shipwrights, Linda Blore and Sam Binder, WYRUNA's saviours, and the Tumlaren Association, with the beautiful VAHINE in the background. In the best journalistic tradition, the Age did spell WYRUNA's name wrongly, but that shouldn't take away from a nice little story!
