The first weekend in December means it’s time for the annual CYANZ Patio Bay race.

Boats can choose either to race or cruise the approximately 20nm across the gulf, but when you get there Pirate themed BBQ seems to be compulsory!

Thanks to Roger Mills at Hummingbird for allowing us to show you his beautiful six minute video of the craft on their way to Waiheke.

Roger writes…

The Classic Yacht Association's annual Patio Bay Race saw tricky conditions after the start with a breeze yet to fill in. Forecast to come from the North it never arose, and instead filled in from the west giving those with running kites a chance to stretch their legs. Of note was the five Logan designs racing on the day. TAWERA A18 (1935)  led the fleet utilising her symmetrical spinnaker to good effect on the long downhill run. Close behind were RAWHITI A2 (1905) and ARIKI A3 (1904), having a duel off Awaawroa Bay. RAWHITI managed to pass and hold her small advantage to the finish. LITTLE JIM A16 (1934) showed off her beautiful lines slipping quietly along past the photographers boat and the tail ender of the Logans was FRANCES B15 (1906) enjoying a nice breeze up the Waiheke Channel.

With a pirate theme activities ashore got aaaarghhh and fun was had by all.
