‘The Restless Wind’ A 1950’s voyaging film
Following last week’s film about the SANDEFJORD’s circumnavigation we received some great correspondence.
This from John Keelty was a highlight!
Hi SWS,
I was actually at the CYCA on the day that the Customs contacted Merv Davey at the CYCA to inform him they were bringing a disabled Yacht the Sandefjord to the CYCA and gave him a hand to tie her up and get the crew ashore and feed them It's great to see the pictures of the old Club and slipway It brings back great memories

We also received a note from the Melbourne sailmaker Jamie at Thomson Sails
It's obvious that they went to a lot of trouble to take some of the footage.
Imagine having to lug those heavy cameras around, and have limited film. A bit different to these days. Some good moments in the film, especially coming into Sydney. No yachts in Nara Inlet apart from their own ! Gorgeous Moorea.Found a link to another film too after the movie finished: “The Restless Wind” A British couple sailing a Vertue half way around the world in the late 50's. (Better narration and music too )
So we checked out the Video and what a beauty it is. The ‘after the event’ narration gives it a charm and self-awareness not present in the SANDEFJORD film and the creators family connection to the story makes it emotionally touching in a very understated English way. And it’s only 40 minutes long…and leaves you wanting more!
And if you’re not a Vertue fan you should be!
Here are some of the times this amazing Laurent Giles design has cropped up in SWS
