The 24th Summer-CYAA on Port Phillip

The Classic Yacht Association of Australia, held its first ever race on 11th October 1997. It’s unclear which boats sailed in that first race but I’m fairly sure that the 45ft Philip Rhodes Designed SCIMITAR, the 1964 S&S COTTON BLOSSOM and the famous Logan Gaff Cutter WAITANGI all started, perhaps as the only three boats in the fleet. There seems to be no record of the results, which perhaps is more a comment on the seriousness of the competition, than the lack of record keeping.

Twenty four years later, this Sunday around 20 boats will start race one of the 2021/2022 CYAA Summer Series. They are an eclectic list of boats designed by Naval Architects from all parts of the world. And if you are reading this on the Friday of our weekly email out, then its not too late to get your entry in!
