The Last of the ‘Boat Folk’ Films from the AWBF : TREVASSA
TREVASSA is one of the most important Tasmanian Jock Muir boats still in existence.
Starting out life as a spec-build, partway through construction, Russell Duffield, who had previously bought Jock Muir's PATSY, decided he wanted to buy the vessel.
Built in 1971 by Jock, the boat was constructed from locally sourced Blue Gum and Huon Pine. At 48ft LOA the boat had competed in 5 Sydney to Hobart Yacht Races and spent much of it's life in Sydney.
Enjoying a very eventful delivery trip to Sydney in July 1971, when a rogue wave capsized the craft just south of Eden NSW, the crew narrowly avoiding disaster. In true testament to Jock's seaworthy designs, the boat righted again, mast and sails intact and crew in one piece save for a nicked nose from a flying kitchen knife.
In 2013 the Muir family purchased the boat and TREVASSA was reunited once more with the waters of the Derwent River.
