Cruising the Horn

In our fourth and final (for the moment) article on the amazing craft that amateur designer Wally Ward drew, we reproduce a fascinating account of the second part of CARRONADE’s ocean voyage across the pacific and around Cape Horn. Although the “CA” designs are most fondly remembered in Australia for their outstanding racing results, this passage highlights, that with a competent crew, unafraid of a little discomfort, and with a raging sense of adventure, these lightweight, revolutionary little craft could safely cruise the world’s oceans. The story below is written by Des Kearns and is taken from a 1969 anthology called “Force Nine and More”
