He’d always had ambitions to design yachts. One of his proudest possessions was a handwritten letter received from Olin Stephens. As a teenager he had drawn a yacht and sent the plans to the great man for comment. Olin despite being famous and busy, replied, making some critical observations but at no time be condescending to the colonial lad who had presumed to seek advice from the master.
Festival News-From Both Sides of the Tasman
Remember when they turned Jellicoe Harbour into a sea of wooden boats? It’s happening again! The Festival will be back in full force for 2026, as part of Moana Auckland.

Beautiful (and occasionally not so beautiful) craft gather in one spot, flaunting their curvaceous bodies, and sparkling varnished jewels in the bursts of sunshine, as crowds mill around the pontoons, pontificating on the worthiness and attributes of each vessel
