The Good Ship ZEPHYR

You might have noticed the British racing green bow splashing through
the Port Phillip chop at the top
of this weeks email.
It belongs to the Tumlaren ZEPHYR.

With a couple of recent “barn finds” of Tums with excellent provenance and the legendary YVONNE due to emerge out of the shed after an exhaustive restoration, the class is ready for another growth spurt.

ZEPHYR is a rare chance to get involved with this iconic Melbourne One Design and the tight knit group of sailors who are their custodians. She is beautiful, ready to race or cruise and is only for sale as the owners are moving interstate.

ZEPHYR  (ZEFIR) WAS built in Adelaide in 1953. She was the only boat in Australia built to Knud Reimers’ original specifications with steel frames.

She was brought to Melbourne in 1976 and purchased by Kevin Read in the late 1990’s. Kevin, a cabinet maker and shipwright Phil Holmes completed a full restoration, replacing the steel ribs with spotted gum and adding a laid teak deck.

Roger Dundas and Pip Todd purchased the boat in 2003, and Anne and Karen Batson took over as custodians in 2009. ZEPHYR is a consistent starter in Classic Yacht Association races. She was runner-up in the 2019 State Tumlaren Championship and won the Knud Reimers Trophy.
