Tumlaren International Ver.2

It’s hard to believe that it’s almost a year since the teams from Sydney, Brisbane, Hobart and Auckland flew into Melbourne to take on the local champions at their own game, in the prelude to the Cup Regatta. run by the Classic Yacht Association of Australia.

Well, its on again this year, on Friday 31st of October with four local boats being offered to visitors to compete against a Port Phillip crew. There will be a slight change in 2025 with Melbourne owners being aboard their yachts during the racing rather than watching (heart in mouth) from the comfort of the MARGARET PEARL as per last year. These are the craft being offered by their generous custodians for the event.

Peter Bannerman’s ZEPHYR

Dave Allen’s YVONNE

Jim Hutchinson’s DINGO

Sarah and George Low’s SNOWGOOSE

The Victorian Boat to take on these challengers is yet to be decided. If you are a local owner who is interested in taking up this roll then get in touch with the CYAA .

There will be a series of short races on the Friday, with the winner being presented the Trophy that same evening at Paella night in Ferdi Darley shed.

Following the racing on Friday, interstate crew will be offered positions aboard boats entered in the fleet racing on Saturday and Sunday. If you’re a classic boat sailor who hasn’t yet entered, then get onto it by visiting the CYAA Website.

The Tumlaren Challenge will be that perfect example of an event providing competitive wooden boat one-design racing, while embracing values of sportsmanship and camaraderie at every opportunity.

Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you want to get involved.
